The label application process

· Download and complete the label application form no.1 or collect it from the Label Management Office

· Submit the completed form to the Management Office by email with the following documents:

- Proof of business registration

- Certificate of product quality compliance, issued by TBS or ZBS

- Business licence

- Other documents as required

· The Label Management Office will approve or deny an application within 7 days

· Undergo inspection for compliance with Tanzania Standards specifications and good business practices by a technical team

· Sign an agreement for label usage

· Pay the annual label certificate fee

· The Custodian publishes the granting in its periodical newsletter or newspaper for public information

Term of label validity

Successful applicants have the right to use the label for one year from the date on which it was granted. Companies can request a renewal for the same period again.

Conditions for use of the label

All companies which use the label must comply with the following conditions:

· Use the label properly and honestly, so as not to mislead the public, in particular with regard to the nature, quality, or geographical origin of spices

· Present the certificate of use when applying for the manufacture of packaging, in advertising and publicity, and other relevant activities

· Provide any information on the use of the label as requested by relevant authorities

· Give adequate notice of any intended alterations to their production process

· Allow inspectors free access to their businesses to monitor the use of the label

· Pay the custodian a service fee as will be determined and revised from time to time

· Do not grant or assign label usage to third parties

Fees for use of the label

All companies using the label must pay an annual certification fee. The fee is yet to be determined and may also be reviewed from time to time by the label Steering Committee. The fee must be paid to the Label Custodian on the date of granting the right of use (certification).

All companies are encouraged to participate in TanTrade’s Tanzania Spices label branding initiative so that their products and services receive proper ‘made-in-Tanzania’ identification in the international markets.
